Paris has no shortage of world-famous museums, but one of its newest cultural attractions lies beyond the familiar tourist districts. Île Seguin, a small island on the River Seine in Boulogne-Billancourt, is transforming its industrial heritage into a destination for contemporary art and entertainment.
The opening of a major arts centre on 17 October 2026 marks another milestone in the island's regeneration. Visitors can now discover international exhibitions, striking architecture and creative spaces within easy reach of central Paris.
From Industrial Island To Cultural Landmark
For much of the 20th century, Île Seguin was dominated by an enormous Renault automobile factory.
Following the factory's closure, the island underwent a gradual transformation, replacing industrial buildings with cultural venues and public spaces.

The project aims to establish the island as a destination for residents and international visitors.
Discover A Spectacular New Art Centre
The island's newest attraction, Large, opened on 17 October 2026.
Designed by RCR Arquitectes and French architecture practice CALQ, the building contains approximately 2,500 square metres of exhibition space.
Its impressive main gallery reaches 14 metres in height and features an open interior without supporting pillars.
Visitors can explore interconnected spaces, enjoy views across the Seine and admire the surrounding landscape from outdoor terraces.
Around 40% of the building is accessible without purchasing a ticket.
Additional facilities include a bookshop, children's creative area and café overlooking the river.
An Exhibition Inspired By Machines
The opening exhibition, Moteur Imaginaire, explores the relationship between people, machinery and modern industry.
Curated by Cecilia Alemani, the exhibition features 120 works by 55 artists from 23 countries, including 17 specially commissioned pieces.
The collection includes creations by Jean Dubuffet, Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely.
Several works explore the island's automotive history through imaginative installations and unusual materials.
The exhibition runs until 7 March 2027, offering visitors several months to discover the collection.
What Else Can Visitors Explore?
Île Seguin offers more than contemporary exhibitions.
La Seine Musicale, an architecturally distinctive performance venue, hosts concerts and cultural events throughout the year.
The island also features an eight-screen cinema and Parc Gauthier Mougin, a landscaped public space planned to accommodate more than 30 sculptures.
Additional restaurants and a future hotel are expected to expand its appeal.
Visitors can easily combine an exhibition with a riverside walk and an afternoon exploring nearby Boulogne-Billancourt.
How Much Does A Visit Cost?
Standard admission to Large costs €15, while visitors aged 26 and under qualify for free exhibition entry.
Other eligible groups may also receive complimentary admission.
The centre opens Wednesday to Sunday, from 11am to 7pm, with extended opening until 9pm on Fridays.
Exploring the accessible public spaces provides a free alternative for visitors interested primarily in architecture and scenery.
How To Reach The Island
Île Seguin is easily accessible using Paris Métro line 9.
Travel to its western terminus, Pont de Sèvres, then walk approximately 10 minutes to the island.
The convenient location makes it suitable for a half-day excursion from central Paris.
For travellers interested in discovering a different side of the French capital, Île Seguin offers a compelling combination of industrial history, contemporary art and modern architecture.
